Gardening Tips

Hello, my name is Rosebud Mouse. I was adopted by Daisy & put in charge of the rose garden. I love roses & not just because I was named after the pretty flower! There are three basic kinds of roses, standard, hybrid teas, & shrub roses.

Most of the hybrid teas & standards will not winter in Zone 5 ( Cleveland, OH) where we live so, they must be protected with burlap or those Styrofoam rose cones.  That is why we use mostly shrub roses in our garden. They are the hardiest & require little care. Spring is generally the best time to prune your roses & fertilize your roses. Bone Meal is rich in nitrogen & makes an excellent rose fertilizer!

Here's a new tip that my Mom, Daisy just told me about. She learned this one from one of her friends at work. Did you know that planting a tomato next to a rose will prevent Black Spot Disease? It's true ! Also, mom can't say enough about a product made by Ortho called Rose Pride. It's a fertilizer & bug/disease preventative! It was one of the best selling items at the garden center at Wal-Mart & the only item we use in our cybergarden!

Well, I hope these tips helped you out & if you have any questions about rose care, please e-mail my adopted mom, Daisy! Bye for now!
